Knowledge About Camera Module Alignment

by Annette Bishop

Most of consumer products are nowadays fitted with digital cameras especially in electronic products and automobiles. Their increased use in most gadgets has led to increased innovations in the pixel density, the power consumption and the lens quality. As the camera module alignment techniques advance, the assembly techniques are also increasing.

The alignment improves the accuracy of the gadgets hence resulting into increased performance of these gadgets. The module basically consists of two primary components which include a sensor and an optically aligned lens assembly. Formally the manufactures inserted a threaded lens barrel in the housing with the operator monitoring the image on a video screen in order to align it.

This kind of approach allowed the manufacturer to do alignment of the lens in only one dimension known as the optical axis. Now the new methods of arrangement allow positioning of the lens in rotational and linear axis. This greatly improves the image quality which is the customers expectations.

The technology is basically designed for accurate assembly and testing of digital and analog signals and also the sensors. The lens assembly is aligned to the sensor which is on the circuit board up to five degrees of freedom. This lens assembly is positioned in three dimensions that is the x, y and z and even across the corners which is then rolled to achieve a good focus on the focal plane.

Some stations which are responsible for the provision of these technology are generally designed to support high volume production because they provide manufactures with comprehensive sets of operations such as image testing, second stage cure, laser marking and handling fully automated materials. This technology has enabled client specific requirements be met. It also has eliminated unnecessary components and has also optimized performance to even the most demanding applications.

the camera module alignment has a number of advantages to consumer applications. It has reduced the number of road accidents by having the cameras fitted in the automobiles to alert the driers in case of danger on the road. They can be fitted inside or outside the automobiles.
