IPad Tips For Getting What You Need

by Heather Eisternam

Everyone has heard the hype surrounding the iPad. Some think it's a toy, while others think it's a helpful tool for the future. If you would like to make good use of the iPad as a tool, this article provides some tips to help you.

Parental controls are important if you have a family. Go to General settings tab and select "enable restrictions" to ban access to mature content. If your child is going to be on the Internet, you should do this.

Want to be able to find your iPad if you lose it? Go to Settings, then iCloud. Locate 'Find My iPad' at the bottom of your screen and enter your Apple ID. If you ever lose the device, just go to iCloud.com.

Do you hate typing on your iPad? Use the speech-to-text feature to "type" instead. Located on the keyboard is a microphone symbol. Once you have clicked on this you can simply say what you would normally type. Re-click the symbol once you are done. After the second click, you will see your dictated speech appear on the screen as text. As a final step, check for any misspellings or misunderstood words and edit the text.

If you want to quickly move between apps without going back to the main screen, double-click the home button and your running apps will appear. Choose the icon of the specific app you want and click. To go back, do the same thing.

If you need to mute an iPad, try this simple trick. Just hold down the volume button for two full seconds. This is a lot quicker than going through the settings. If you want the volume to revert back to the original level, just hold down the button again.

Open new webpages using a new tab to keep your current webpage open. While in Safari, hold the link and a pop-up menu appears. This pop-up menu provides you with the opportunity to use a new tab to open an additional link.

Taking screenshots on an iPad is easy. Press Home and Sleep together. The screen will flash and you will hear a click. This lets you know that you've successfully taken the photo. Screenshots automatically go into your photo gallery.

Backing up your iPad is a very important task. There are also settings which allow the iPad to delete all memory if someone attempts to crack the password. This feature can be found under your general settings. Simply click Password Lock and turn it on. This feature will erase your data if a password is entered incorrectly ten times.

Do you feel your eyes getting tired when reading books on the iPad? Simply adjust your screen brightness to address this issue. Access Brightness in the Settings, or use the slider in the iBook app to dim the level.

Copying text on an iPad is easy, as all you have to do is just double tap a given keyword. But, this is not the ideal method to use if you need to copy a large volume of text. Instead, tap four times on the text you want to copy and the paragraph will be highlighted. This doesn't just work for paragraphs, it works for the URL bar as well as addresses.

The iPad is quite resistant, but water can be a real threat. Don't use it in any humid locations, and never enter the bathtub with it. This will likely cause damage to the iPad.

From a game system to lifestyle tool, the iPad really does it all. The piece above is simply the beginning of your iPad education. Keep doing more research and playing with your iPad until you become familiar with all the features.
