Software Development Offshore

by Chloe Bibi

The on-going demand for new and more sophisticated technology has really pushed software development to the forefront as an element that is becoming increasingly important in business. The need for constant development and new technology means that this field however is quickly becoming very expensive to maintain and combined with the high standards of western working conditions this is costly to any business. Although locally made products are always a good selling point, offshore software development has become more popular in recent years to keep costs down.

Although outsourcing an element of any business has its pros and cons, in many situations the benefits can outweigh the negatives. One of the biggest benefits of offshore software development is the amount of costs and time that can be saved by a business. Many other countries may have lower wages and increased working hours, leading to improved productivity at a lower cost.

India and the Philippines are two of the world's leading areas when it comes to offshore software development and the idea of outsourcing to areas such as this can bring a big benefit to the local community and they can help to boost the local economy. Offshore software development can provide a range of job opportunities in areas which otherwise may struggle to support a local community.

One of the main issues involved with offshore software development is that of quality control and unfortunately this is something that needs to be monitored incredibly closely. In the production industry within the UK there are incredibly tight manufacturing standards and these must be upheld at all times, but unfortunately this is not the case in many other countries and as such potential problems with products can occur.

If your business is looking to cut costs down then offshore software development can be a great idea but it is something that will require a great deal of regulation and this needs to be clear before you decide to go down this path with your business.
