Make sure your financial records are complete and accurate. If you ever are audited, you'll need to be able to show all of those records. Keeping detailed records will also help track how well your business has been doing and you can look back on monthly reports to see where you need improvement.

Have your loved ones and friends avoid interrupting your home business work day by calling ahead as they would with any job. That way, you won't be distracted while you're working. Your first priority is focusing your attention on your business!

When you need clients to come to your home office, you have to have business insurance. As a general rule, normal homeowner's insurance does not cover business activities. You don't want to be caught short on liability or equipment losses due to incorrect insurance.

It is important to have different phone lines for your business and home use. This helps avoid you answering the phone unprofessionally and helps customers see it as a business.

If your home business is your main source of income, make sure you have some sort of back-up plan in the event that things don't go as planned. Disaster can strike at anytime, such as not receiving a shipment in time for a project deadline, and it is important to have a backup plan for such emergencies. If you plan ahead, you will not end up in a rut while trying to fix things.

In order to find success in running your own home business, you must be totally comfortable promoting yourself. You need to be comfortable approaching prospective clients in all manner of situations. You have to convince the customer that the products and services you provide are top-notch.
