Electrical Infrared Inspection Is An Important Part Of Fire Prevention

Fires due to faulty electrical wiring are responsible for many fires in homes and businesses every year. Fortunately there is a way of preventing these catastrophes before they occur through electrical infrared inspection. Having this assessment done can identify problems before they become serious and ultimately prevent damage and save lives.

Infrared detection is designed to illuminate areas within an electrical system that are giving off more heat than normal. Any components which do not check out normal will be further evaluated by the technician conducting the inspection. Finding these faults early can prevent damage from spreading to other neighboring components as well.

The most common use of IR thermography is for electrical inspections. A wire by nature, begins to deteriorate immediately upon installation as it carries an almost constant flow of current. Aging is one of the main causes of damage in wires that can eventually lead to worse problems that may compromise the building's safety. These surveys should be a part of any structure's regularly scheduled maintenance.

It is easy and non-invasive for a technician to carry out this evaluation. By scanning the area, the infrared equipment will clearly illuminate any potentially hazardous faults which could pose a danger if not promptly fixed. There are different types of faults such as poorly ventilated equipment, damaged insulation, incorrect temperatures, equipment overload, corrosion, and loose connections. If these issues are repaired in a timely manner they will ultimately cost much less and also be safer for those in the building.

Heat and increased resistance are normally produced when a component is not functioning properly and can ultimately lead to their failure. Whether this is caused by wear, oxidation, poor connections, or improper installation, it will be clearly illuminated with the testing equipment. Problem areas will be clearly identified on the survey so the home or business owner can see to it that they are corrected as soon as possible.

Ideally the assessment will be executed with the system operating at its maximum current capacity so it will likely be generating its highest possible temperatures, as to provide the technician with an accurate picture of its condition. Based on these findings, the technician can then further evaluate the seriousness of any issues that may come up. Components being checked can include fuses, control panels, circuit breakers, distribution boards, and transformers as well as others.

These preventative inspections only offer advantages to the property owner. Damage at any stage will be revealed, as will a faulty installation, and it will become apparent if any component is not functioning as it was intended to. Sometimes the building checks out without a fault, which in itself can surely bring peace of mind to homeowners and encourage business to carry on with their plans for production.

An annual electrical infrared inspection is an investment that more than pays for itself in the potential damage cost it saves the property owner. Early detection means quicker and cheaper repairs that will not be allowed to reach the point where they can become a fire hazard. Given the nature of wires it is very important to attend to this important measure regularly.
