Some might find it challenging when it comes to deciding on which Precision computer to work on. In this article you'll find short summaries of features you can expect to find with some of Dell's more popular Precision systems, as well as information which will hopefully help you figure out which Precision Fixed or Mobile Workstation fits your budget and computing needs.

Desktop Computer Towers

Most people who work in a desktop office will choose to go with a Dell Precision Fixed Workstation. There are several sizes, but every one of them comes with a copy of the latest Microsoft Windows operating system. Choose from Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 or Windows 8 Professional. As you can see, you'll have a variety of Microsoft Windows operating systems to choose from, all of which allow you to more than adequately and efficiently run your business operations. The most basic of the operating systems are the home editions of Windows. They gradually increase in their levels of sophistication, most notably in security features. Advanced security features have their advantages for business users. You will find that you have the ability to encrypt sensitive information, modify data, and monitor programs with apps such as AppLocker, BitLocker and Branch Cache.

Start with a Precision T1650 if you're searching for an inexpensive business desktop computing solution. The base model for the Precision T1650 is powered by a 3.3GHz dual core processor that can be switched out with faster options. The Precision T1650 is bundled with 2GB of system memory, which seems like it's not enough, but this can be expanded to 4GB if you choose. Storage options will vary as well, but the starting spec is a 250GB hard disk drive. To summarize, the Precision T1650 is one of the more basic workstation systems, but it offers lots of configuration options for you to play around with.

On the opposite end of the product family, you'll find the powerful Dell Precision T7600 fixed workstation. You'll find that this model will offer you more computing power and storage space than most other Precision models. All the major components are upgradable, from the processor to the graphics controller, and Dell will put together everything together for free. All Precision T7600 workstations are powered by Intel Xeon processors. Select from single or dual multi-core processors. System memory options run up to 256GB of RAM, while storage configurations are all quite plentiful. A majority of the graphics controller options allow for you to connect multiple monitors to the system, some as many as four. Note that the Precision T7600 does not ship with any monitors.

Dell Mobile Workstations

If you're a mobile professional, than a mobile workstation might be a more desirable computing solution for you. Precision mobile workstations are smaller versions of Precision fixed workstations, and they're designed to be like portable laptops. Most of the components and features found in Precision fixed workstations can be found on Precision mobile workstations.

There are two Dell Precision mobile workstation systems: Dell Precision M4700 and Dell Precision M6700. Choose the Dell Precision M4700 if you're in need of something that's light and small. It has a 15.6" screen. In the Precision M6700 you'll find a system with a larger screen, measuring 17.3" in diagonal. Whether you decide on the M4700 or the M6700, know that you'll be getting one of the best mobile workstations available.
