Met Expectations - Home Finance Software Critique

by Allison Ross

It is fantastic software. After years of living in and out of credit I finally got the help I needed. And a working sync system between the iPhone app and the desktop app. I've only used it for more than a month but I haven't found anything to complain about.

Let's say you spend $500 on Christmas gifts each year. Instead of paying out that extra 500 in December, the software makes it easy to set aside $42 per month for that expense, building until that time comes. I used to worry that the number in my checking account may not be enough to make everything come together. I can unequivocally state that now, I just don't care. It's eye-opening, to say the least. It will change the way you think about your money, or in my case, it made me *start* thinking about my money.

As soon as the file has been downloaded, YNAB imports it automatically. It's a little extra work, but certainly not excessive.

It's simple, but powerful. I have given up on just about every money management program out there. I could never get all the numbers from all the accounts to match up. I could never grasp where my money was or where it was going.

I will leave the futures of YNAB to other reviews. This is an OK program but is defiantly not for everyone.

You won't be disappointed with this God-sent utility. I have been using YNAB for a little over a year now. But I understand this product is continuously being updated (and future updates are free), so this might not be a problem for long. I've been using YNAB for 2 years now and I love it. It's a simple, straightforward, effective program. It deserves 5 stars. I was more in touch when I used to budget in Excel, and got lazy when I started using Quicken. What really excites me about YNAB is the ability to plan for future expenses by budgeting them for them NOW - eg set aside $100 a month for your semi-annual car insurance premiums, or for an upcoming vacation. I loved the feeling that Jesse was talking to me. I loved the YNAB 10 day eCourse.

We are going to be working toward this. He shows you were your money is going in several different forms, which is very helpful.
