Things to Know When Buying a Computer
Things to think about before you purchase a new computer: What will you use your new computer for? Will this be for home use? Is it going to be for entertainment purposes for friends and family? If so, you should be able to purchase an entertainment PC. If you want to use your machine for gaming you will want a gaming pc and they tend to be more expensive. Gaming PC's require powerful graphic card and need a good processor.
The next thing to consider is if you want a desk top machine or a laptop. Laptops are portable and use less electricity than desk top machines. If you decide to go with a laptop or desktop you want to consider the following:
You can choose two different screen sizes for a laptop. 15.6" or 17". The 15.6" screen is better for traveling but if you don't plan on traveling go with the larger 17" screen. If you decide on a desktop machine you will have a large selection of screen sizes. A desktop machine will allow you to hook up an additional monitor also.
Battery Power-Having a good battery will be important if you travel a lot.
Processors- Make sure to purchase a good processor with your machine. You don't want to buy a budget machine and end up with a substandard processor. You also want to know how fast the processor is.
Memory-Random Access Memory or (RAM) is what your computer uses to process programs and information. This is very important factor for the speed in which your computer performs. Try to have at least 4GB of RAM.
Hard Drives- Your computer's hard drive is the storage space for your computers data and programs. Hard drives are rated by the gigabytes (GB). Get a computer with a large GB to be able to accommodate all data you want to store such as pictures, images, music, movies and programs.
The next decision is whether you want to purchase a PC which uses Microsoft interface or Apple. Graphic designers, artists and photographers usually prefer Apple due to the different interface and features. If you don't need special features that an apple uses you should be able to go with a PC that uses Microsoft.
If you decide on a PC, I would recommend that you check out the HP Envy line. They are great machines and come in different screen sizes. You can also get one with 3D. The Envy line also comes with the Beats Audio system which allows you to amplify the sound without external speakers. These machines come with six built in speakers and has integrated HP wireless audio.
Before heading off to the store to buy your new computer makes sure to look at all of the options and decide which features you want to have in your new computer. Taking the time to make a wise decision will lead to many happy years with your new computer
