The process of seeking, securing, searching and locating an electronic data is the one called as the electronic discovery. It has been believed that this procedure plays an important role in recovering evidences that our found in databases. It can be worked out in two ways, either through a network or a computer offline. Information exchanging by the means of electronics is the one being dealt. An intended getting of access to evidences is one type of this process through the sanctioned hacking by the government or court-ordered.

People tend to get confused between electronic information and paper information. Electronic information contains metadata that is not present in paper information. This metadata is one of the foundations that support a case that is to be proven. Prevention of spoliation can be done when the metadata will stay on its place.

When a data is deleted from the system, it is not an assurance because it can be undeleted.

Data in digital forms are tremendously well-fitted in investigating. Documents that are written had to be checked manually, whereas digital data can be searched electronically. Also, it is impossible to be ultimately destroyed. It is due to the reason that the data appears on many hard drives and even if it is deleted it can be restored again. The only way to destroy it; is to do it physically.

Good evidence is always embedded with all types of data. Any forms of it are considered supports that will enhance the case being scrutinized. Virus, spyware and Trojans are even good contributors to the case. Exchanged mails via electronics are studied as well, there is lesser care taken by people when they do it electronically. Web sites, audio files, calendar files, data bases, images and a lot more that could be found in the computer are all considered evidence as long as it can prove its relevance to the case.

Cyberforensics are those whose expertise falls in computer forensics. It is a form of e-discovery in which the hard drives carry out the investigation through the content. A digital copy is made after the investigators isolate the computer physically. In a secure facility is where the computer will be placed. Everything that has something to do with the examination is done on the digital copy.

In today's world, technology is becoming unstoppable. The unfathomable power of it had reached the tiniest object in this planet. Electronic discovery is actually not just an ordinary kind of technology; it goes beyond to what is expected. It had been the way in resolving issues in legal constitution, security and even personal privacy. The effectiveness of it had been proven in many successful cases.
