More employees than ever are relying on IT support management for everyday problems in the office as companies cut back on internal IT departments.

A recent study by the technical service association, HDI recorded as many as 536 companies out of a total of 800 suggesting that calls to IT help desks from employees had increased. Most of these calls were regarded a minor technical issue by IT experts with the majority being regarded as front-end or level one support.

What may be a basic problem for an IT specialist may not be so clear to everyone else who relies on an IT service on a daily basis. Fortunately this article reveals the most common reasons for employees to call IT helps desks to help you gain a better understanding:

1. System support - An estimated 16% of calls to IT support services involve a system error or slow performance. This is normally linked to lack of care and maintenance. A mixture of fragmented data, corrupted registry, spyware and unnecessary programs and services all running at the same time can have a large effect on the computers speed and performance.

2. "My computer won't switch on!" - IT support services regularly receive calls where the computer refuses to turn on. In many cases the computer has become overheated due to a dirty or defective cooling fan. Without attention, this can cause wires to expand inside as well as causing sensitive parts to melt or become unhinged. High pitch noises and vibrating computers are also a common concern with employees not realising that in most cases it is usually caused by the electronic components.

3. Hardware trouble - Over time it's not uncommon that one of the thousands of parts with makes up a PC can become unhinged. IT support specialists usually deal with computers which have become overheated due to a dirty or defective cooling fan. This can cause wires to expand as well as melting sensitive parts. High pitch noises and vibrations are also a regular concern for employees and in most cases are usually created by the electronic components.
