Warning They've Modified Their Product - Antivirus 8 Software Critique

by Gavis Watson

No more having a scan pop up to slow your computer down (Yes, I know you can schedule a scan to run at 2AM, but many people shut their computers off at night). I had been running Avira AntiVirus Premium Security Suite, and it worked well enough, but it was always pestering me.

The software installed on my computer in under 12 minutes and was up and running at that time. It can be used on three computers, a "BOON" for folks that have multiple family members using their own computers. Arrived on time, in perfect shape, and worked as it is supposed to. Excellent product, but then I have been using Norton for a few years now. Once you get this software it will let you install on 3 different computers. Haven't tested 64bit version, but I'm pretty sure it should work the same. You can continue working on other programs with minimal intrusion while a scan is in progress because Norton AV doesn't bog down your computer like a lot of the other AV programs (of which BitDefender must surely be the worst offender). A Full System Scan performs a scan on critical areas as well as files on local drives, mapped network drives, and removable drives. There should be no reason I have to waste time every day, running something manually and hoping it will process. I needed the mac Norton internet antivirus and they did not let me cancel the order after buying the item. Great product overall and I would certainly recommend it. I have been very happy with the protection afforded me by the Norton software. I love all Norton has to offer and had them for 2 years now. Product arrived on time and in good condition.

Now, instead of getting unwanted pop-ups trying to sell me stuff from the company whose anti-pop-up software I installed to get rid of pop-ups (McAfee), I have the option to have the ground rules that apply to other software apply equally to the anti-pop-up software (Norton). Norton also doesn't litter my desktop and Start menu with its icons, like McAfee does. Very secure. All in all, a great product! You can avoid this by buying the product on amazon. It is easy to load, and you do not have to deal with the nitwits at Norton directly, clearly a win-win situation.

Amazon's cost can't be beat out in the stores. After ordering from one of Amazon's providers, I chose the next best deal on the same product, and it arrived just two days before my previous Edition of Norton Internet Security was to expire.

I'm still waiting to see if a charge comes through on my credit card before I load my new. Other than the Norton trying to auto-renew me, the software kept me problem-free on both business laptops for all of 2010. This is why I prefer Macs; you don't have all this aggravation. I like Norton especially since they improved it. I continued buying products when they went into antivirus, but became very unhappy with the "bloatware" that they began selling - really slowed my system down and created a lot of compatibility problems with other programs. This year I was shopping for a new program, as my ZoneAlarm was expired and a new subscription was a lot more money than I wanted to spend.
