Best Product That I've Ever Owned - Personal Finance Management Software Review

by Alexis Morgan

This worked fine and I'd tweaked the spreadsheet to suit my needs. I had a hard drive failure recently and lost all my data.

With this system, you may want to take certain categories and apply some additional to them each month beyond what you would normally spend. For example, the 'Transportation: Tires and Repair' category.

I have recommended it to friends, family and co-workers and only wish I could give it more than 5 stars. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

For me, it is well worth the cost. I bought this based on the reviews of the product and the whole concept of sticking to a budget. This program is exactly was it claims. Our only issue is that is takes a lot of time & focus to set up. YNAB is straightforward and it does one thing, and one thing only -- it helps you create and manage a budget. With careful record keeping, you can do the same thing YNAB does with a pen and paper, or with Excel -- but the software is simple and easy-to-use and readily imports transactions (without fail) from my banking institutions. Why would you purchase a program that has a 360 page 'For Dummies' book written for it" And I am so very glad that I did.

Been using YNAB for years, I don't follow all the rules but it is still great for tracking expenses, credit cards, checking accounts, and just knowing what you're doing with your money. Will never go back to quicken junk again. Even without a 'Dummy series guide' (like you need if you want to use Money, because its included manual is so inadequate) or even reading the included manual, I was able to quickly set up a budget - it was all so intuitive and common sense. It's really a breath of fresh air. It is a wonderful product and I am really impressed with it so far. I like how he gets you to work toward having a month in reserve. You cannot use this software to balance your checkbook, but it will balance your budget. One of the best features of this software is that it will allow you to apply money to a specific category each month, and let that category grow. Interface looks good. Community group support is available. YNAB's debt snowball program is okay (it's nothing fancy and very simple), but I prefer the free debt snowball spreadsheet I found at another site to it. They are both very similar though. There aren't too many negatives to YNAB at this point. You currently cannot download (automatically) your transactions from your bank.

It gives you a roadmap of your finances, where it was spent, how much of it and how much surplus you have. Every dollar/cent has a job (rule #2 per the guide), if not spent then save it, or pay extra on your credit cards.
