Obtaining As Much As Possible Out Of Cheap Ink Cartridges

by Jackie Sitepoint

Even if you are thrifty and do buy cheap ink cartridges for your printer, you are still spending a fair bit of money on a product that can be used up fairly quickly. The question that you need to ask yourself is whether there are ways that the ink can be used more efficiently so it does not run out as fast. Several tips exist which can help you get the most out of your purchase and save ink. These tips are as follows.

First, make sure you are only printing what you actually want printed. This seems rather obvious, but a lot of people will just print off things that they will end up throwing away soon after it has been printed. Make use of print preview to screen out pages that you know you will have no use for.

Second, check once a week whether or not your print cartridges are still in good working order. Simply assuming that they are working because they are full is costly as the ink can dry up and leave the cartridges worthless. Just printing off a test page at least once a week will stop that from happening.

Third, make sure you are only printing what you need to print. Document files saved on your computer can be read on your computer without the need to print out a hard copy. So only print them off if you definitely need a hard copy of the document.

Fourth, rely on black ink for your printing as much as you can. You should do this for the very elementary reason that black ink costs less than color ink does. Print off black and white documents unless you really need a color document printed off.

Fifth, even if you are not using the printer, leave it switched on. The power that is used in keeping an inactive printer switched on is minimal, and this helps to close off the print heads, which means that air will not get near the ink. This prevents the ink from drying up, which is a small price to pay for the power used.

Sixthly, try to buy the ink in bulk. If you do buy the ink cartridges in bulk, it works out much cheaper than it would be to buy them as separate cartridges. And of course, the added bonus of buying the ink cartridges in bulk is that you will always have spare ink to use (for a while, anyway).

To conclude, then, the above hints will allow you to get the maximum out of cheap ink cartridges. The more ink that you save from not printing wastefully, the more money you have that is not squandered buying more ink. For no matter how cheaply the ink can be bought, it can cost a lot if you are buying a lot of it. In addition, money is also saved on the paper that is not being wasted in the same manner as the ink, so it literally pays to follow these hints.
