Really Good, With Bonuses - Small Business Software Review

by Tyler Clark

Software is still horrible but at least quicken will refund your money....no so much for Amazon. I am no bookkeeper. I am not happy with this version. I sent an email and the response I got from them was incorrect. I still need to learn more about Quicken and its intricacies but so far it's a winner! I really thought that Microsoft Money was a great product, even though I had some issues over the years of the product freezing for unknown reasons during sessions.

Boy is this stuff good! It is a little hard to figure things out exactly - for that you'd probably need Peachtree accounting but who has the time to put all that data in there - not me. The result is that you have to babysit the process for fifteen or twenty minutes just to confirm each account independently. My biggest disappointment is the tremendous amount of time that I waste trying to figure out how the software will let me download statements this time (or if it will allow me to do so at all). There is no consistency.

Don't be snookered like me, save your money. I have been using Quicken 2008 Deluxe for the past 3 years. They do not support their products in any meaningful way in terms of bug fixes. Applications from a software giant such as Intuit should be patched before the average user even recognizes a problem. I used Quicken 2009 as best I could, some things like my credit cards would not download (they still don't).

As I pointed out previously, I've been waiting for 3 years for the "one step update" bugs to be patched. So while they say they support each product for 3 years, which really is a fabrication. To tell the truth - it made me realize what an idiot I've been (possibly) spending as much as I have on things of possible useless value. So far it hasn't really helped me reform immensely but somewhat I think.

I was concerned about what would happen if I had PC trouble, and didn't need to wait long to find out, as I got a really aggressive virus within two weeks of my purchase. I was able to download the product again without any trouble at all! My confidence in that regard is thin. The interface is daunting, to put it mildly.

As much as it pains me, I am now looking for new financial software after almost 10 years with Quicken. This company somehow manages to make money in spite of itself, mostly due to idiots like me who feel held captive and keep buying their software. I guess I feel that I have a couple of choices by April 27th, 1 - live with my current version and say goodbye to my downloading capabilities, and, if possible, any other features they can start removing till I have to upgrade. I just have to calm down a little before I pay the ransom on my downloading abilities!
