This Is The One - Service Business Software Review
It became abundantly clear that the whole process was broken, so I went back for a refund. At least I don't have to spend time chasing down little problems. It isn't perfect, and I haven't quite figured out how use some of its functionality - in particular tracking our investments, but overall I'm quite happy. My bank said they cannot download my transaction to this accounting software because they do not use the newest file transfer systems. It works great and I'm constantly using it every time I making a transaction. It is really helping me keep track of my money whether it goes in or out.
Things may have changed, but I gave up on them years ago because the experience was so painful. It was bad enough they just read the help file to me, but their having a poor command of English made it difficult to follow them as well. I have no doubt that there is an overarching logic to this application, but it's lost on me with this interface. Also, buyer beware if your investment brokerage isn't a Quicken Partner (which is the only way automatic transaction downloading will work), because I have spent over an hour of each day since receiving Quicken trying to set up my 401(k) account manually, and I've failed each and every time.
It imported just fine but when I hooked up my online accounts it downloaded and duplicated hundreds of entries throwing off all my balances. If I tried to remove the duplicates it messed up the related accounts (like if I deleted a duplicate mortgage payment it also remove it from the mortgage account which didn't have duplicates causing my balance to show higher than it was). I selected this version for a home based business. It is immediately able to load my banking accounts. Most financial institutions will let you download the past ~90 days of information into Quicken. If you want any information earlier than that Quicken has NO easy way to enter this information in bulk, and suggests that you get to manually entering info one transaction record at a time.
This problem continued even after creating new cash flow reports from scratch. Any minor action while working in the cash flow report creates another 2 minute delay. I switched to Quicken after MS retired Money. I don't have time to list all the issues I've had, but I will say I spend at least 3 times more time managing my money. Interesting program they've got that requires a mandatory upgrade every three years. This particular version works just fine, as did Quicken 2008 and the previously loaded version.
What a feeling to be forced to pay for the software because they basically cut off features if you have an older version that is still working fine! Sounds sort of like a scam! I consistently get CC-501 errors. Right now they are offering Quicken Home and Business at a 35% discount and if you are thinking about purchasing it you might want to read all the reviews.
Also, some keyboard shortcuts are now gone. There does not appear to be any way to customize the icons or keyboard shortcuts so that I have my most desired actions available in the account ledger.
